After your Gastroscopy
- PATIENT INFORMATION
We hope that your visit to the Endoscopy Suite
has been as comfortable as possible.
Today the Doctor has looked at
your gullet, stomach and small bowel using a flexible endoscope
(telescope).
When you go home you may experience
some of the following mild symptoms:
|
Drowsiness
|
|
Slight
unsteadiness on your feet
|
|
Slight
soreness in the throat
|
|
Mild
windiness in your abdomen
|
These should only be mild and
are quite usual. If they cause concern or persist, please
contact the Endoscopy Suite in working hours. Out of these
hours please contact your GP or Out of hours service
The sedation you have had remains
in your body for several hours, it is therefore advisable
for someone to be with you for the rest of the day.
You should rest quietly for the
rest of the day. You may eat and drink normally 24 hours after
the gastroscopy. Before this you may drink normally, but it
is wise to stick to a light diet.
You are strongly advised not
to go to work, drive a car, operate machinery, drink alcohol
or sign legal documents for 24 hours after the gastroscopy.
